Sweet and Sour Ribs


When you're craving something sweet and tangy, prepare Sweet and Sour Ribs as a starter dish or main meal! This recipe serves 4 to 6.

For the sauce, you will need:
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/3 cups brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce

To prepare ribs, you will need:
  • 3 pounds pork ribs
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 cup water

Preparation

  1. Brown ribs evenly on all side and drain fat.

  2. Place ribs, soy sauce, water, and garlic in large roasting pan, and cook covered at 350 until all liquid is absorbed, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

  3. *Preparation Tip: Drain excess fat in roasting pan several times while baking. Ribs should be tender when done.

  4. While ribs are cooking, in small bowl dissolve cornstarch with pineapple juice. Blend well, making sure there are no lumps.

  5. Add all other sauce ingredients and mix well.

  6. During final 15 to 20 minutes of cooking, pour sauce over ribs and baste again after 10 minutes, or as often as desired.

  7. Remove from oven, and baste again with sauce. Let stand for 5 minutes to retain juices, and serve.

Variations

  • Substitute beef ribs for pork ribs.
  • Garnish with diced green onions
  • Garnish with sesame seeds.
