Won-Tons


Crispy Won-tons are an enjoyable Chinese treat! Filled with cream cheese and delicious crab meat or shrimp, Won-tons will immediately have you taken by the warm creamy filling and crunchy outside texture. This recipe serves 4 to 6.

For the filling, you will need:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 small onion (minced)
  • 2 cups crab meat or finely chopped shrimp

To prepare Won-tons, you will need:
  • 1 package won ton wrappers
  • 2 cups peanut oil

Preparation

  1. In large bowl, mix cream cheese, minced onion and your choice of crab meat or chopped shrimp.

  2. Place individual won-ton wrappers on clean, dry surface. Put tablespoon of filling in middle of each wrapper.

  3. To help seal won-tons, slightly wet edges of wrapper with water. Fold won-tons by bringing points of wrapper together in a triangular shape. Seal won-tons by pinching edges together. Then, bring right and left corners in middle and pinch together.

  5. While preparing won-tons, heat 2 cups of peanut oil in skillet or wok. Place won-tons in oil 5 to 6 minutes or until wrapper is golden brown. Place on paper towels to cool and drain off excess oil.

  6. Serve with favorite dipping sauce, like hot oil chili or ginger-soy dipping sauce.

Variations

  • Use both crab meat and finely chopped shrimp by combining one cup of each for the filling.
  • For vegetarian won-tons, do not add crab meat and shrimp.
