Lo Mein


Prepare Lo Mein noodles when you want something other than your basic chow mein. Serve Lo Mein noodles in individual bowls, and excite your family as you pour the sauce over it at your table right before eating! This recipe serves 4.

You will need:
  • 16 ounces linguine noodles
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Five Spice Powder
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup Chinese cabbage, preferably Bok Choy or Napa, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup green onions for garnish, chopped

Preparation

  1. Cook noodles according to directions on package. Drain and toss lightly with a splash of oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.

  2. While noodles are cooking, combine 1 quart water, soy sauce, and Five Spice Powder in large bowl. Mix well, and set aside.

  3. In large skillet, heat oil and add onion. Sauté 2 to 3 minutes.

  4. Add sliced mushrooms and cabbage. Sauté additional 3 to 4 minutes.

  5. In same skillet, add sauce mixture and heat additional 2 minutes.

  6. Serve noodles in individual bowls at table and pour sauce mixture over top.

  7. Serve immediately.

Variations

  • For spice, add crushed red peppers to taste.
  • For heartier meal, top with cooked pork, chicken, meat, seafood or tofu.
  • Garnish with diced green onions.
