Sweet and Sour Noodles


Sweet and Sour Noodles are great all year around! Add meat to this recipe to make a heartier meal. For those who love tofu, Sweet and Sour Noodles is a perfect blend! This recipe serves 4.

You will need:
  • 16 ounces thin Chinese egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 green onions, diced
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken, sliced
  • 1 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 3/4 cup snow peas
  • 1 cup bean sprouts

Preparation

  1. In large pot, bring water to boil and cook noodles until al dente. Drain noodles and set aside.

  2. In large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Sauté green onions 1 to 2 minutes.

  3. Add chicken, diced bell pepper, ginger and garlic to skillet. Continue sautéing until chicken is properly cooked through.

  4. While chicken is cooking, combine lemon juice, soy sauce, and sugar in small bowl to make sauce. Mix well, and set aside.

  5. Add peas and bean sprouts to skillet with chicken. Continue heating 1 to 2 minutes to warm and blend vegetables and chicken.

  6. Add reserved sauce to skillet, and toss gently. Remove from heat, and serve.

Variations

  • Substitute shrimp for chicken. Add during Step 5.
  • Substitute pork for chicken. Add during Step 3.
  • Substitute extra firm tofu for chicken. Add during step 3. Squeeze as much fluid out of tofu before adding to dish.
  • For spice, add crushed red peppers to taste.
  • For vegetarian Sweet and Sour Noodles, do not add chicken.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds.
