Sweet and Sour Mackerel

Spice up the average Mackerel dish with this Chinese recipe for Sweet and Sour Mackerel.


You will need:
  • 2-4 short mackerel, fresh
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 dried chilies, minced
  • 4 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp fish sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 6 Tbsp olive oil


  1. Wash and clean mackerel and set aside.

  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat half of the olive oil over medium high heat.

  3. Place mackerel in skillet and fry until golden brown and flaky, then remove from skillet and set aside.

  5. Heat remaining oil in skillet and add fish sauce, sugar, chilies, and garlic.

  6. Mix well and heat through.

  7. Return mackerel to skillet, add water and simmer for 4-6 minutes, to allow sauce to penetrate fish.

  8. Remove from heat and serve.
