Sweet and Sour Tofu

Chinese Sweet and Sour Tofu is a delicious meal that goes perfectly with traditional Chinese rice recipes.


You will need:
  • 14 oz tofu (firm, drained and cut in cubes)
  • 1 cup vegetable stock
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp ginger, ground
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 small carrots, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced



  1. In a large bowl, dissolve cornstarch into vegetable stock, then add cayenne, soy sauce, ginger, sugar and vinegar, mix well and set aside.

  2. Place olive oil in a large skillet and heat over medium.

  3. Add garlic, onion, and carrots.

  4. Stir fry for 5 to 6 minutes.

  5. Add mushrooms and pepper and continue to stir fry for 3 to 4 minutes.

  6. Add cornstarch and vegetable stock mixture to skillet and cook until mixture is thickened.

  7. Add tofu and let cook for 5 to 7 more minutes.

  8. Remove from heat and serve over rice.
